Planetary landscape 2017

Things are already happening. The calendar year is a human concept of course. Yet we love numbers and associated rituals, parties especially. Let’s see first what is being carried forward from November/December 2016, as we approach the end of this year.

Jupiter – Pluto – Uranus

On 24 November, the first square between Jupiter (in Libra) and Pluto (in Capricorn) becomes exact. Going into 2017, they will become exact again on 30 March and 4 August. Whilst Jupiter’s opposition to Uranus (in Aries) becomes exact on 26 December 2016 and again on 3 March and 28 September.

Thus this trio energy continues from late 2016 well into 2017. Involving two of the outer planets (Pluto and Uranus), they have a longer span of influence. Jupiter alone would just confirm and expand things further, but Pluto wants to purify things first, and Uranus contributes (most of the times unexpectedly) with its transcending energy. It is ahead of the times.

Occupying all three the cardinal signs of initiator, their influence is not going to be unnoticed. They will initiate, and it won’t be superficial with Pluto being involved. Where you have these signs in your chart is an useful indicator for where or in what sector you will be ‘initiated’.

Eclipses along Aquarius – Leo axis start in February and culminate in August, when the quasi-entire US continent will witness the solar eclipse on 21 august:

  • 11 Feb 2017 in Leo 22 degrees (Full moon)
  • 26 Feb 2017 in Pisces 8 degrees (New moon)
  • 7 Aug 2017 in Aquarius 15 degrees (Full moon)
  • 21 Aug 2017 in Leo 28 degrees (New moon)

The theme of endings/beginnings unique to eclipses (especially solar/new moon) will be felt according to your natal chart, i.e. which houses/places you have in the signs of Leo/Aquarius. If you have planets around or opposite the degrees mentioned above, those planets will be involved in filtering the eclipse energy.

26 Feb eclipse has Neptune close by (Pisces 11 degrees), while 21 Aug eclipse has Uranus exact trine (Aries 28 degrees).

Venus retro

On 4 March 2017 Venus goes retro in Aries 9 degrees; on 15 April 2017 it stations direct in Pisces 15 degrees.

Be aware of mis-judgement or change of heart during the period regarding Venus related themes: beauty, renovation, appearance, also your bank accounts and wealth. If your annual profection place is either Taurus or Libra (ruled by Venus), pay extra attention!

Mercury retro

Below are the dates and sign/degrees in which Mercury goes retro → stations direct. The first one is actually carried forward from December:

  • 19 Dec 2016 – 8 Jan 2017: Capricorn 15 degrees → Sagittarius 28 degrees
  • 9 April 2017 – 3 May 2017: Taurus 4 degrees → Aries 24 degrees
  • 13 Aug 2017 – 5 Sept 2017: Virgo 11 degrees → Leo 28 degrees
  • 3-23 Dec 2017: Sagittarius 29 degrees → Sagittarius 13 degrees

In the first three instances above, Mercury retrogrades from an Earth sign to a Fire sign, until it gets to December when it retrogrades entirely in the fire sign of Sagittarius. Note also: where Mercury goes direct on 5 September (Leo 28 degrees) is the exact degree where solar eclipse occurs 2 weeks prior.

Again, you can filter Mercurial messages (and its retro dance) according to the houses/places where it falls in your chart. Usual caution against finalising during retro is sensible, as you may well reconsider it later on.

Saturn’s path

Saturn is in Sagittarius until 20 December 2017, when it ends 3 year long permanence in Sagittarius and enters Capricorn. That is going to be a big shift and I will talk more about it closer to that date. For now: 1) Saturn in Capricorn means in its own sign of rulership; 2) Capricorn pertains to ‘government’; 3) Saturn will approach Pluto and eventually conjoin Pluto in Capricorn (Jan 2020) before going into Aquarius.

Not so favourable months 2017

March – Venus retro, Jupiter/Pluto square, Jupiter/Uranus opposition

August – Eclipses, Mercury retro

December – Saturn change sign after 3 years, Mercury retro in Sagittarius
